Can you cater for dietary requirements?
YES! Our biggest aim at Curls & Cakes is to make sure everyone can have their cake & eat it too. No one should have to miss out because of a pesky dietary requirement.
Unless otherwise specified, everything that comes out of our kitchen is gluten friendly as standard. Many of our products can be made vegan, egg free or dairy free on request. If you have any other allergies, please contact us beforehand and we will make sure you know which products will be suitable, or can be adapted for you.
While every care is made to ensure that products don’t contain allergens, please be aware that products are made in a kitchen where allergens may be present.
How do I place an order?
The best way for you to contact us is by email, or using the appropriate order form on our website.
If you do not hear back from us within 72 hours of placing your order, please call or text us on 0274 335 190 to check we have received your email.
We do not accept requests through our social media sites, as these messages are lost too easily.
What are your opening hours?
Our operating hours are 10am - 4pm Wednesday - Saturday. We aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours, however during our busier times, this may take a little longer. We thank you for your patience.
Monday & Tuesday we are closed.
How far in advance do I need to make a booking?
As much notice as possible is best to guarantee your date.
For our classic & signature cakes, generally 2 weeks is plenty of notice, and sometimes we can produce them with as little as 48 hours' notice. However, during our busier times, this isn't always possible, so the sooner, the better. For Vegan & Dairy Free cakes, we may need a little more notice too.
For custom cakes & wedding cakes, we need as much notice as possible, this is to give us plenty of time to plan & design your cake to make sure it is perfect for you, and also to make sure we have enough time to source everything we need to make your special cake look just right.
And it goes without saying that we can, and do, book up quite quickly. So, as soon as you know the date of your celebration, get in touch to secure your date so you don't miss out!
Do you offer delivery?
Yes, we have free delivery available to Wanaka & Albert Town*. There is a flat rate fee of $10 to Hawea or Luggate addresses. Please contact us to discuss delivery options to other areas. Delivery options depend on availability. Alternatively, you can collect from our kitchen in Wanaka Town Centre - we'll give you the details when you place your order.
Delivery is also available to surrounding areas such as Cromwell & Queenstown. Please contact us directly for a quote.
Once the cake has been delivered, we cannot be held responsible for any damage which occurs to it.
*Please check with us to confirm if your address falls within this boundary.
We're having our celebration at a restaurant, can you deliver the cake straight there?
The short answer is yes. However, please double check with the restaurant that this will be OK (understandably, some places don't like outside food being brought in, or they may charge a cake fee.) Please confirm with the restaurant which booking the cake is for, and that they have somewhere suitable to store it. Once we have dropped off the cake, we can't be held responsible for any damages.
How should I transport my cake?
If you are collecting your order from us, we recommend placing it in a flat place in the car to transport it - either in the boot on a non-slip mat, or in the footwell, NOT on the seat.
Make sure the car is cool, the cake is out of direct sunlight, and do not leave the cake unattended in a hot car.
Once the cake has been collected, we cannot be held responsible for any damage which occurs to it.
How should I store my cake?
As long as it isn't a really hot day, then generally keeping the cake in a cool, dark place is best.
If it's a hot day, it may be worth keeping the cake in the fridge up to an hour before it will be eaten. However, our cake is always best when eaten at room temperature.
If you have any leftovers ('what is leftover cake?' I hear you ask. Well, sometimes it does happen.) We would recommend keeping it in an airtight container, again either in a cool dark place, or in the fridge, but making sure it comes to room temperature again before eating.
What are you doing about sustainability?
As part of our environmental & sustainable mission, there are a number of steps taken during production of your tasty treats in a bid to limit their impact on the environment.
As many ingredients as possible are sourced from local suppliers, for example our eggs come from free range hens right here in Wanaka. As little single-use plastic as possible is used throughout the whole process – as many ingredients as possible are sourced completely packaging free from bulk suppliers, and the packaging used to supply your goodies is usually home compostable.
The first step is to reduce the amount of packaging that products are delivered in, then to reuse anything that does make its way to us, with the very final option to recycle if that’s necessary.
Design changes may be requested up to 14 days prior to your order, however they are subject to a $50 fee for extra design time required. Additional charges may apply for extra ingredients/equipment, including postage costs.
Payments & Cancellations
For all cake orders, a $50 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking, with full payment due at least 14 days prior to your order being ready. For orders made within the 14 day timeframe, full payment is required to confirm your order - your order is not confirmed until we receive your payment.
The following cancellation fees apply at the discretion of Curls & Cakes management:
If you cancel outside the 14 day window, you will receive a refund, minus the $50 deposit admin fee.
If you cancel within 7-14 days of your booking, you will receive a 75% refund, minus the $50 deposit. (i.e. if your cake costs $200, you will receive a refund of 75% of $150 ($200 cost minus $50 deposit) = $112.50 refund. )
If you cancel within 7 days of your booking, there will be no refund.
At the discretion of Curls & Cakes, we may offer you a credit to be used at another time, within 6 months of the original date of booking.
